Dog movies always score cute points. Air Bud was so lovable; they brought him back for a few sequels. Combine that with the Chihuahua breed’s super high ranking on the cute doggie scale, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua starts with a strong foundation. The question is, can it deliver a plot that capitalizes on that foundation.
While on vacation in Mexico Chloe, an overly pampered Beverly Hills Chihuahua pooch (voiced by Drew Barrymore) finds herself lost and in need of assistance to get back home. Delgado, a street-wise German Shepard (voiced by Andy Garcia) tries to help her find her way. In the meantime Papi, a tough acting Chihuahua with a crush on Chloe assembles a posse to get her back.
The casting for the doggie voices is impressive. Some of the top Mexican-American actors in the business were tapped, including popular comedians Cheech Marin, George Lopez and Paul Rodriguez.
